Terminology – finding your way around the rinks!
The basics of the game …
The object of the game is to deliver your bowls so that they finish closer to the jack than those of your opponents.
The Jack is a small white or yellow coloured ball.
|1. Delivering the jack.
The Jack is delivered along the centreline of the rink to establish a target towards which players deliver their bowls.
|2. Delivering the bowl – forehand.
To allow for the bias of a bowl, it is delivered on a line to the right of the rink centreline so that it curves in towards the jack.
|3. Delivering the bowl – backhand.
To allow for the bias of a bowl, it is delivered on a line to the left of the rink centreline so that it curves in towards the jack
|4. Wind Effect
Wind has an effect on the course of the bowl as shown in the diagram. The forehand delivery has to be wider and the backhand narrower than deliveries made under calm conditions.
