Welcome to Mosman Bowling Club
The members of Mosman Bowling Club pride themselves on our beautiful old building, gardens and well maintained greens. We are one of the few 100+ year old clubs in Sydney and the oldest club in the Mosman Municipality.
We welcome visitors to use our facilities for private functions, community and corporate events. Just call Rhian in the office on 9969 5198 to discuss your requirements. We specialise in large corporate events where bowls is part of team building or celebration activities. If you are interested in playing bowls it would be difficult to find a more friendly and inclusive club.
While Round 1 of the Men’s Midweek Challenge was washed out and all teams registering a draw, Round 2 was played in wet but very playable conditions. Mosman had mixed results, with our B & D Grades enjoying wins at home against St.Ives and Dee Why respectively and our C Grade team losing to Seaforth away.
Congratulations to our 2018 men’s Triples Champions, George Lindsay, Snowy Kable and Scott Denham! And what a Final it was, with Scott’s team well on top for the first half of the game – after 15 ends they were 26/5 ahead, but then came the rain and with it, a resurgence by Brin Kerwood, Kandiah Siva and Bruce Bodinnar who won the next 19 shots to bring the scoreline to 26/24 with 1 end to play. Despite losing 9 ends straight, Georgie, Snowy and Scott held on to win the end by a shot, and the Championship by 3 shots, 27/24. Well done to all players on a most entertaining and, in the end, gripping game!
Helen Haran had a comfortable win against Loyce Davis in the final and is our Women’s Minor Singles Champion for 2018. Well done to both ladies.
In 2016, at the initiative of the late Peter McAdam, our Club hosted the inaugural Centenarians’ Trophy Competition. In early October a representative Mosman team competed against 7 other 100+ year-old Clubs at the Waverley BC, withstanding wind and rain and experiencing “intriguing” bowl control to succumb to the eventual winners, Balmain BC who will now host the 2019 event. Thanks to the Mosman bowlers who participated.
Our annual Bowls Tour has been finalised, with 40 members committing to visit Port Macquarie in November. We will be hosted by the Port City and Lake Cathie Bowling Clubs on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th November respectively. As many of our group have indicated they will be driving to Port Macquarie a coach is not viable, therefore all bowlers should arrange their own transport. We will be considering a carpool operation, so stay tuned!
The Mosman Mayoral Trophy will be contested at Mosman BC this year, on Saturday 27th October. Unfortunately the Warringah Women have been unable to muster sufficient numbers, so it will be a men-only affair this year. Our Mosman Women will be filling the breach by playing their own tournament on the same day. Let’s hope it returns to the usual format next year.
Our ever-popular Melbourne Cup Bowls event will be held on Tuesday 6th November. Social bowls will be followed by a delicious lunch, leading up to viewing the Cup at 3pm. Club sweeps will be available as always. Names on the list asap please to assist with the catering.
The Club now has a Facebook account. To join go into your personal Facebook account, search for Mosman Bowling Club and ask to join. Michael Russell will then enrol you. Or just click the footer at the bottom of this page.
